Cist (Cistus incanus L.) is a member of the rock rose family found throughout the Mediterranean where there is plenty of sun. It can grow up to 1 metre tall and can be recognised by the delicate pink flowers that bloom in the spring months.

Hoci is typical of much of southern Europe, originating from Greece, where it was used around 400 BC. A myth from ancient Greece says that the gods on Olympus assigned Cist the task of caring for wounded warriors, something the goddesses disagreed with. They were of the opinion that such a beautiful flower should look after the beauty of a woman, so they left the decision up to the cist, who chose to do both.

In ancient Greece, resin was made from the cist, which was also imported to Egypt and the Sudan, and later the cist tea was drunk, which the Greeks offered to their guests when welcoming them.
